Spin-Safe™ maximizes visibility of cyclists by drivers.
Spin-Safe™ is the only bicycle lighting system that illuminates biomotion with a bidirectional light that mounts to the crank arm of the pedal.
The vision of vehicle drivers can be roughly divided into two areas: a central (or foveal) cone of approximately 10 degrees that has a high degree visual accuracy, and a peripheral vision outside the central cone. In the peripheral vision area, details are not detected. Instead, motion in this peripheral area is required to gain attention. When motion is detected, the driver responds by relocating the central cone of vision to the motion to understand details of what caused the motion. If motion is not detected in the peripheral vision, the cyclist may not be seen.
Steady light is better than no light, and a blinking light is better than steady light. However, per additional information below, the most effective lighting is that which illuminates the up and down motion of the leg. Spin-Safe™ is specifically designed to provide this most effective illumination.
